Strawberry, a 2-year-old canine, had been shuttled between various shelters and narrowly escaped euthanasia due to a head injury before being rescued by the La Belle Foundation in Los Angeles.
When Strawberry was rescued, she bore the marks of her tough past, which included significant swelling on her face and eyes needing care.
“This young dog has been through some tough times and is back,” stated the La Belle Foundation in a social media post. Initially, the lump on her head alarmed shelters, leading them to consider euthanasia.
However, further examinations revealed it was merely scar tissue from a previous wound and posed no serious health risks.

Once she had fully recovered, the Kuhlman family from South Pasadena discovered Strawberry online and felt an immediate connection. “Something spoke to me about her,” shared Kristen Kuhlman, the family’s matriarch.
Despite being heartbroken by the recent loss of their 15-year-old dog, the family decided to adopt Strawberry, bringing her into their home where love and affection overflowed.
Strawberry quickly became a beloved member of the family, known for her affectionate nature. “She’s wonderful to snuggle up to,” said Claire Kuhlman, Kristen’s daughter, with a smile.
The family was left perplexed as to why such a friendly dog was close to being put down. “We often wonder how she ended up in such a situation,” said Jack Kuhlman, Kristen’s son.

The dog’s name, Strawberry, stuck due to its fitting nature. “It’s cute and has a nice ring to it, so sometimes we call her ‘Strawbs,’” explained Jeff Kuhlman, the family patriarch.
They even found a leash adorned with strawberries, which seemed like a perfect match.
Strawberry has become a local celebrity in their neighborhood, instantly recognizable by the unique bump on her head. “People roll down their windows to greet her,” shared Kristen Kuhlman, “and that’s something that brings a lot of joy to us.”
The Kuhlman children eagerly look forward to playing with Strawberry each day after school, relishing the bond they’ve formed with their new canine friend.
Strawberry has not only found a home but also become a cherished part of her community, capturing hearts wherever she goes.
