Two months ago, staff at a construction landfill noticed a pregnant dog wandering the area. Sadly, the site is known for being a dumping ground for unwanted dogs, so they offered her food but didn’t see her again for a while.
When she reappeared thinner, it was clear she’d given birth. Nancy Cowan from Three Little Pitties Rescue began searching and found the mama, later named Lucy, hiding with her puppies under a dumpster. She slowly gained Lucy’s trust over several days before safely rescuing the family.
Lucy and her pups were moved to a safe nursery. Since then, Lucy has been pampered and celebrated — even enjoying breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day. Once spayed, she’ll be ready for adoption.
All six puppies are healthy and weaned; one is already adopted, and the rest — Teddy, Cleo, Sadie, Rusty, and Willow — are looking for their forever homes.
