From Bloated Belly to Bounding Puppy: Shelter Rescues Abandoned Pup from Critical Condition

On the chilly morning of January 15, 2023, a tiny, defenseless puppy was found abandoned outside our Animal Shelter.

His swollen belly caught our immediate attention, resembling that of a toad. Recognizing the urgency, our team knew we had to act quickly to assist him.

Our veterinarian promptly examined the puppy and identified his condition as ascites, which causes the abdomen to swell due to fluid buildup.

Several potential causes could lead to this condition, so blood tests were essential to uncover the underlying issue.

“We understood the fluid in his abdomen could lead to severe complications and were genuinely worried about his chances of survival,” one of our team members mentioned.

Thanks to the dedication of our team, providing continuous care and attention, the puppy slowly began to show signs of recovery. Gradually, his belly reduced in size as most of the fluid was successfully drained from his abdomen.

As his health improved, the once lethargic puppy became lively and spirited, delighting us all with his curiosity about the world around him.

Despite his challenging start, the puppy maintained a cheerful and affectionate demeanor. He loved cuddling with our team and eagerly played with his toys.

Over the weeks, we continued to closely monitor his recovery, working alongside Pierre to ensure he received the care necessary to make a full recovery.
