Abandoned Pups Sleeping In Broken Furniture Almost Lost Hope Of Ever Being Loved
Last month, a group of neighbors in Los Angeles, California, were stunned when they woke up one morning to find a pair of fluffy strangers on their street. They’d typically welcome newly moved-in pups with open arms, but this duo was different: The two dogs were alone, and they were in shockingly poor condition.
“[T]hese babies were so matted, so filthy, and one of them … had patches of skin just gone,” Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, wrote on Facebook. “No one knew where they came from. No one came looking.”

The neighbors were heartbroken. They’d never seen these two matted dogs before, and suddenly the pair was sleeping in a bulk trash pile with seemingly no home of their own.
“[They were] two tiny, broken souls laying beside the trash,” Hall wrote. “Curled up next to an old, discarded dresser, like it was the only shelter they had left in the world.”

The dogs were petrified and refused to move from the trash pile despite the neighbors’ best efforts. So, the Good Samaritans set out food and water, then called Logan’s Legacy 29 for help.
While some of Hall’s previous rescues involved running after skittish dogs, this situation was different. These dogs, later named Kimber and Pennies, were just as terrified, but instead of bolting, they stayed stuck in their safe place.
“They were terrified. Frozen,” Hall wrote.

Kimber and Pennies were too scared to let anyone get close, but Hall refused to give up on them. She showered them with gentle praise and soon managed to corral them into a neighboring yard. One by one, Hall slipped leashes over the pups’ necks, then scooped them up and carried them to her car.
The pups were clearly sick with a long road to recovery ahead, but Hall knew they would have the brightest and happiest futures.
“They are not trash. They are worthy,” Hall wrote. “And from this moment forward, their lives will reflect that.”

Sadly, a thorough examination at the vet revealed just how difficult the pups’ healing journeys would be. Both dogs tested positive for scabies, which required them to go into immediate isolation for everyone’s safety.
“Scabies is incredibly contagious to other dogs and even to humans,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “It affects anything with skin.”

The pups, who’d been bonded from the moment they were dumped, were devastated to be separated for the first time. And their caregivers were just as heartbroken to see them isolated.
“They didn’t ask for any of this …” Hall wrote. “They just want to feel safe, loved and healthy again.”

Thankfully, after a few weeks of intense treatment, both Kimber and Pennies overcame their scabies and were finally allowed to be reunited.

The sisters’ reunion was nothing short of emotional, with both girls’ tails wagging incessantly as they sniffed each other hello. They soon went off to a loving foster home together, where they’ve been thriving ever since.
“They are so sweet,” Hall told The Dodo. “They are all better and ready for adoption.”

Pennies and Kimber are still on the hunt for their perfect forever home, hopefully together. Once discarded like the furniture they were forced to sleep in, Pennies and Kimber are now living their dream lives. And as far as Hall sees it, the best is yet to come.
“They’re safe now,” Hall wrote. “Their healing can begin.”
